He Called It a Prank，I Called It Goodbye

He Called It a Prank，I Called It Goodbye Plot

Avery Ross spent eighteen years as Caleb Bennett's most devoted friend — following him to the same schools, fixing his messes, always there. At their freshman welcome party, he repaid her by pinning her down onstage while his new crush dumped a bucket of red paint over her head. The whole room laughed. Avery didn't cry. She filed her withdrawal papers the next morning and never looked back. Armed with nothing but fury and focus, she threw herself into a brutal gap year — and along the way, found an unexpected rival-turned-anchor in Lucas, a quiet genius chasing MIT. As Avery rises from humiliation to a 1590 SAT score and a Columbia acceptance letter, Caleb spirals into expulsion, debt, and ruin. This isn't a revenge story. It's the story of a girl who decided she was done being the punchline — and became the whole damn headline.
