She tried every means to win their favor, only to be met with contempt and mockery. The brothers mistakenly identified Shirley, the daughter of a servant, as their savior and showered her with care. Heartbroken, Rachel resolutely requested to marry Spencer, the younger uncle of the three brothers, and her request was granted. On the wedding day, the brothers still believed she was forcing the marriage and caused a scene, nearly injuring Rachel. Fortunately, Spencer appeared in time to protect her.
